Equatorial Guinea has the second highest literacy rate in Africa

The magazine African Economist has ranked Equatorial Guinea second in the literacy rate of 52 African countries, with an adult literacy rate of 87%, higher than South Africa or Kenya. In 2010, UNESCO reported that Equatorial Guinea had the highest adult literacy rate of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The government policy in promoting culture and literacy has led to a significant improvement in levels of education. This success is also a result of partnerships with respected universities in Latin America, the US, Europe and Asia.

The Minister of Education, Maria del Carmen Ekoro, emphasised the role on international collaboration in improving educational standards in Equatorial Guinea.
