The American University of Central Africa (AUCA) is a project currently under development by Unicon Guinea in Oyala, Equatorial Guinea— the soon-to-be new country capital. This project is based on a partnership between the Ministry of Education and Stonehill Education.
Collaborative efforts have made this project possible under the coordination and guidance of the Ministry. After more than three years of meetings with StoneHill Education, and the investment of funds as part of the Horizon 2020 national development plan, AUCA is almost ready to be launched.
StoneHill Education conducted an analysis of the country and its economy, assessing the current educational levels and requirements of the growing industries, condensing this information into a comprehensive proposal which suits the country’s needs. “With this particular project we are offering a private layer of management in a publicly owned educational institution. We would assist from initial planning, program development, marketing, [and] recruitment of faculty and of students…” said Sherina Hosein Mohammed, president of StoneHill.
The focus is also on the visibility of this university in the international academic sector. “Another area that is crucial for any new university is to start the development of their network and links with other universities and institutions. We aim to expand the collaborations, the student exchanges, the faculty training, etc…The future education sector in EG will become more international,” concluded Mohammed.
The Dean and Professor of Counselling Psychology and Human Development at Boston University, Dr Hardin Coleman, also visited Equatorial Guinea and was impressed by the University and the country’s quality of education. He was particularly impressed by the government’s efforts to improve education through more efficiently incorporating multilingualism and multiculturalism.
