The Equatoguinean Head of State, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, legalised on Wednesday via presidential decree the Centre-Right Union (UCD) as a new political party in opposition to the current government in Malabo.

The decree recognises the UCD “after an examination of the documentation presented by the organisers [of the party], within the criteria for legality”.

It also adds that the UCD’s legalisation is made “subject to the formal verification of documents and the minimum content of [the party’s] statutes in compliance with the provisions specified in the law”.

The President of the Republic also authorises the UCD to enter the registry of political parties held by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Local Corporations.

President Obiang notes that the recognition of the UCD is “to realise the agreements of the final document of the national dialogue between the government and political parties”, held in Sipopo (Malabo) this past November.

With the legalisation of the UCD, our country now has a total of 14 political parties, including the governing Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE).
