Currency: Equatorial Guinea is part of the French Monetary Area, and the Bank of Central African States (Banque des Etats de l’Afrique Centrale), which issues XAF or CFA currency. Bank notes are available in denominations of 500, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 whilst coins are in 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 and 500. The Euro is tied to the CFA Franc. There are only a small number of ATMs, but foreign currency exchange is available in several banks; but remember to keep your receipts for later inspection. Cheques of any kind are not used, and credit cards are limited to main hotels and restaurants.

Time: Equatorial Guinea follows West Africa Time (WAT), which is an hour ahead of GMT.

Communications: The country code for Equatorial Guinea is +240. Most people use mobile phones through two networks, Hits Africa and Orange. There are nine Internet service providers.
