On Tuesday 29 July, Her Excellency Mari-Cruz Evuna Andeme, Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea in the UK, met with Mark Simmonds MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. The meeting served to strengthen bilateral ties between Equatorial Guinea and the UK, with Equatorial Guinea’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Agapito Mba Mokuy, set to visit Britain next month.
During the meeting, Her Excellency discussed the recent African Union (AU) Summit, held in Malabo last month. The AU-Turkey Summit scheduled for November and the 2016 AU-Arab Summit were also discussed.
Speaking to Mr Simmonds, the Ambassador explained Equatorial Guinea’s commitment to the Open Government Partnership. Launched in the UK in 2011, the Partnership focuses on the exchange of information and knowledge around transparency issues. Over 80 countries – including Equatorial Guinea – have signed up to the initiative.
Ambassador Evuna also expressed Equatorial Guinea’s support of the UK’s policy to combat violence against women worldwide. Concluding the meeting, the Ambassador presenting Mr Simmonds with two ekueles, marital symbols of the Fang ethnic group.
