H. E. Anatolio Ndong Mba, Equatorial Guinea Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations, witnessed Equatorial Guinea receiving recognition as the first African country to be recognised within the framework of the celebration of Afro-American History Month. During the ceremony, the ambassador joined Victor Mooney, executive director of South African Arts International, with its headquarters in the United States, and his wife Su-ping Gong Mooney.

H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of Equatorial Guinea and founder of the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), was selected as the first award-winner within the framework of the celebration of Afro-American History Month (BHmonthUSA). The award ceremony will take place in Oyala (also known as Djibloho).

President Obiang has shown in an exemplary way his  humanity, illumination and leadership, and has transformed a country that had been abandoned, through Plan Horizonte 2020. The five main aims of this plan, set in motion by the Head of State in 2007, are: to invest to strengthen economic growth; to strengthen development of structured investments; to promote and strengthen the development of social policy actions; to guarantee a social climate of transparency, and the develop perspectives for greater control and greater evaluation of poverty and the living conditions of families.

The aim of the Afro-American History Month is to extend the American celebration in February, highlighting an African country each year for 365 days. Created in 1994, this activity is coordinated by South African Arts International, Ltd. in order to boost tourism, direct foreign investment, and collaboration in the areas of education and culture in African countries.

The Head of State was also one of the main supporters in the first Afro-American expedition to row across the Atlantic from Africa to the Brooklyn bridge, in New York, carried out by Victor Mooney, who crewed the Spirit of Malabo.

The sailor went to our country’s Permanent Mission before the UN, in the company of his wife. There the ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba passed on his deep gratitude to the President of the Republic, H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, together with his governing team and militants from the Democratic Party of Equatorial Guinea (PDGE), for the hospitality provided, as a sign of the support for his cause to raise funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Mooney presented a cake in the colours of the Equatoguinean flag, in honour and recognition of the work carried out on the African continent by the Equatoguinean leader.

The Republic of Equatorial Guinea Ambassador to the United States, and the United States Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Miguel Ntutumu Evuna Andeme and Julie Furuta-Toy, respectively, have signed a diplomatic agreement in Malabo, which will make it easier for family members of diplomats in the two countries to work.

The agreement deals with the Work Activities of Family Members of Civil Servants.  The agreement was signed in Malabo by the Equatorial Guinea Ambassador to the United States, Miguel Ntutumu Evuna Andeme, and the United States Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Julie Furuta-Toy, representing their respective governments.

This important agreement is a huge achievement in bilateral relations, which will allow the families of accredited diplomatic and consular staff in Malabo and Washington D.C., together with the families of personnel at the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Permanent Mission before the United Nations in New York, to be able to work in the two countries, with the prior authorisation from the Office of Diplomatic Missions for residents in the United States, and from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for residents in Equatorial Guinea.
